Polyoxymethylene, commonly called Acetal, is a crystalline polymer obtained from the polymerisation of formaldehyde. Discovered fairly recently (1960), it has enjoyed rapid growth and large acceptance thanks to its excellent mechanical features, stability to humidity and ease of machining.
