PEI Ultem 1000
PEI Ultem® 1000 & OmniPEI Ultem®
PEI Ultem® 1000, or Polyetherimide, is known for its excellent strength, heat resistance and dimensional stability. Ideal alternative to metals in demanding industries such as medical, aerospace and electronics.
- Temperature range to +170°C
- Excellent for fine precision components
- Electrical insulation, as a reliable dielectric barrier, with high dielectric strength
- Food and Medical safe, meets FDA/NSF-51 and USP Class VI biocompatibility.
- Chemical resistance, with aircraft & automotive fluids. Resists stress cracking
- Flammability, UL94-VO rated
- Higher strength with outstanding structural integrity and stiffness.
- Excellent UV resistance short term
- Brittle and low impact resistance with low tensile elongation and lower impact resistance compared to Nylon and Peek.
- Cost, expensive to produce
- Machining challenges, Its brittle during CNC processing and improper use of coolants can cause stress cracking.
- Creep, will deform under constant stress.
- UV will cause surface discolouration over time
Aircraft brackets and air cabin components, medical sterilizable surgical instruments and trays. High performance insulators, connectors and circuit board fixtures. Valves and manifolds in harsh chemicals or hot water.
PEI Ultem® GF30
PEI Ultem® GF30, or Polyetherimide reinforced with 30% glass fibres, has excellentstructural rigidity and thermal stability over its unfilled part PEI Ultem® 1000. Ideal alternative to metals in demanding industries such as medical, aerospace and semiconductor industries.
- Superior Stiffness and strength compared to PEI Ultem® 1000. Two and half times stronger
- Better dimensional stability so less prone to shifting under varied temperatures
- Higher heat deflection than PEI Ultem® 1000 to 210°C
- Better wear resistance
- Slightly heavier
- Harder to machine, abrasive with glass filler
- Its opaque and not transparent like PE Ultem® 1000
- More brittle under impact
Structural components, interior fittings and fluid handling in the aerospace industry, chip testing sockets, electrical insulators and housings in the semiconductor industry and water pump impellers and metal alternative parts in Automotive.
